Werder Bremen vs Ingolstadt Predictions

The outcome of this Saturday’s match between Werder Bremen and FC Ingolstadt could have huge significance for each club’s prospects of staying in the Bundesliga. Werder Bremen remain in the relegation playoff spot and became the most out-of-form side in the Bundesliga (D1 L4 from last five) after last weekend’s 2-2 draw away to “Nordderby” rivals Hamburg. Meanwhile, Ingolstadt are unbeaten in two outings since Maik Walpurgis took over as head coach. Last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Wolfsburg pushed them closer to safety with their fourth point from two matches (W1 D1).

Though neither side are in decent form, Werder Bremen head into this match with the home advantage and as the bookies’ favourites at 13/10. However, trends show that goals are the safe bet when betting on Werder Bremen, particularly when the North Germans play at home in the Weserstadion. Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score has not only landed in 11 of Werder Bremen’s 12 Bundesliga matches so far this season (92%), but notably in 11 of their 14 home matches (78.5%) in 2016. Though Ingolstadt are the second lowest scoring side in the Bundesliga (9 goals), Bremen have the league’s leakiest back line, having conceded 31 times and have failed to keep a clean sheet all season. Hence, we feel it’s reasonable to see Ingolstadt adding to their tally with at least a goal here.

While Bremen “seem” out of form on paper, they have had a fairly difficult run of matches – three defeats have been against the in-form Eintracht Frankfurt (4th in Bundesliga), Schalke 04 (second most in-form side), league leaders RB Leipzig – and so aren’t a fair representation of their abilities. Bremen have already beaten Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg at home earlier this season, both of which they won 2-1, and we feel that Bremen should out-perform Ingolstadt, who’s only win has been against strugglers Darmstadt. Especially when considering that Ingolstadt have lost 10 of their 14 away matches in 2016 (W1 D3 L10). As such, we also feel a correct score bet of Werder Bremen to win 2-1 at 17/2 is a decent shout.
