West Brom vs West Ham Predictions

West Brom have made a typically dismal and drab start to the Premier League season, and there is very little to suggest that they can improve on their 14th place finish last term.

They began the campaign with a hard fought but scrappy victory at Crystal Palace, but since then it’s all been downhill. They predictably lost at home to an Everton side under new management, and they followed this with a League Cup penalty defeat to League One side Northampton Town.

It was another dull affair at the Hawthorns when the newly promoted Middlesbrough came to town, with that game ending goalless. They returned from the international break to play out yet another boring spectacle as Bournemouth clinched a late 1-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium. West Brom have never been particularly good going forward, but this season they’ve looked dreadful and seem to rely solely on Salomon Rondon.

West Ham’s season went from bad to worse last weekend. They began the campaign by getting knocked out of the Europa League playoffs by Astra, who coincidentally handed them the same disappointment last season.

Their Premier League curtain-raiser showed signs of the problems to come in the league as well. They lost 2-1 away to Chelsea, and then struggled to a 1-0 victory over a Bournemouth side who were reduced to ten men, requiring a late Michail Antonio header to seal the three points at their new stadium. Manchester City were up next, and they received a footballing lesson from Pep Guardiola’s side as they strolled to a 3-1 victory at the Etihad.

Last weekend saw them line up at the London Stadium again, this time against Watford. The standout performer this season, Antonio, popped up with two first half goals to put West Ham in front, but a complete defensive meltdown saw Watford draw level by half-time, and the visitors went on to bag another two goals to win 4-2.

Considering West Ham’s awful defensive displays this season I think West Brom have a good chance of bagging a goal or two on Saturday. The visitors poor showing at the back stretches into last season as well, with them conceding in 11 of their last 12 away days in the Premier League. They have also scored in 11 of them though.

West Brom have found the net in 12 of their last 18 home games in the Premier League too, conceding in the same number of games as well. This makes a backing of Both Teams to Score look good at 10/11, but I think West Ham could get the win, so I’m going for a 2-1 win for the visitors at 11/1 for my correct score prediction.
