Sheffield United to Win

Reason for tip

West Brom have failed to win any of their last five Championship home games and failed to score in four of them. They could lose out to an in-form Blades team that has won two of their last three away league matches and grabbed a 2-2 draw with 10 men in the other.

Sheffield United 2-1

Reason for tip

Sheffield United have the best defensive record in the Championship but could concede at the Hawthorns. They are without their two top central defenders and needed a penalty save to preserve a clean sheet against Sunderland last time out. United have scored exactly two in their last three away league games, so back them to win 2-1.

West Bromwich Albion vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • West Brom have failed to win any of their last five Championship home games and failed to score in four of them
  • Sheffield United have won two of their last three away league matches and grabbed a 2-2 draw with 10 men in the other
  • The Blades are the Championship’s form side after taking 19 points from their last 21 available

Blades are sharp enough to beat the Baggies

Championship form horses Sheffield United should demonstrate their staying power when they face promotion rivals West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday. Last weekend’s 1-0 win at home to Sunderland was the Blades’ sixth of a seven-game unbeaten run.

Chris Wilder’s table-topping side have now taken 19 points from their last 21 available to overtake Leeds and the Black Cats.  But the Blades will be without both of Wilder’s first-choice centre-backs for this game, with Anel Ahmedhodzic serving the last of his three-game ban while Harry Souttar sits this one out too after being sent off against Sunderland.

United are no shrinking violets and will be up for the battle in the Black Country, where West Brom have one of the league’s worst home records.

Hawthorns has seen a goal drought

Albion have failed to win any of their last five Championship home games and been unable to score in four of them, but they tend to perform better against the top teams. Carlos Corberan is happy to let his team concede possession and set up counter-attacking chances, but that approach has seen them draw a staggering number of games – nine of their last 10.

Four of their eight home league games have finished 0-0, which must be a consideration for the result on Sunday. But the Blades have got players that can conjure up a bit of magic for a goal – as substitute Tom Davies did to break the deadlock against Sunderland.

Back the Blades to take the spoils 2-1 because they have hit multiple goals in each of their last three away league games, but may concede in the absence of Souttar and Ahmedhodzic.
