Reason For West Bromwich Albion vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Each of West Brom’s last six Premier League games have featured fewer than three goals.
  • West Brom and Sheffield United have scored just 14 goals between them this season.
  • These teams have failed to score in a combined 11 Premier League goals this term.

Relegation contenders face off at the Hawthorns

Saturday evening hosts one of the least neutral-friendly matches of the weekend as the winless duo of West Brom and Sheffield United face off in what could be an early season relegation six-pointer.

West Brom lead the way in terms of points, but the Baggies have still lost six of their nine games so far and fine themselves two points adrift of safety. They were unfortunate to lose at Manchester United last time out, but it’s hard to argue that West Brom deserve their lowly standing in the table.

Winless Baggies put Bilic in the firing line

Slaven Bilic is coming under even more pressure now, and with just one goal from their last six Premier League outings it’s paramount they find their shooting boots soon and start to put wins on the board.

Saturday’s clash represents their best opportunity yet as they face a Sheffield United side with an even worse record. Chris Wilder’s men have lost eight of their nine matches so far, with their sole point coming in a 1-1 draw at home to fellow relegation contenders Fulham.

Low scoring affair predicted

Like West Brom, the Blades have struggled tremendously with their lack of firepower up front. They have scored just once in their last three games and they haven’t scored more than a single goal in any of their last 12 top flight outings.

The outlook is bleak for those hoping for an entertaining affair. West Brom and Sheffield United have scored a meagre 14 goals in their 18 combined games and each of West Brom’s last six have featured fewer than three goals, while six of the visitors’ nine league games this term have been low scoring affairs.

All things considered, backing under 2.5 goals looks good value and with these two drawing blanks in a combined 11 games this season a goalless draw is our pick for the correct score prediction.

West Brom injuries and team news

Jake Livermore and Kieran Gibbs remain on the sidelines after testing positive for COVID-19 before last weekend’s match, while Sam Field remains injured.

Karlan Grant will continue to lead the line, with the Baggies potentially switching to a back four after their two defence-oriented lineups against Spurs and Manchester United.

Sheffield United injuries and team news

Enda Stevens and Lys Mousset could both return from injury on Saturday, but neither is expected to jump straight back into the starting lineup.

Jack O’Connell is the only confirmed absentee for the Blades, although Ethan Ampadu is also a doubt after being forced off against West Ham last weekend.
