West Ham United vs Sevilla Predictions

  • Both teams scored in a joint PL high 18 West Ham games (62%).
  • Three of Sevilla’s last six away games ended with a 1-1 scoreline.
  • Sevilla’s Anthony Martial contributed to 11 goals in 14 personal meetings with West Ham (G6, A5).

David Moyes is looking to score dos, tres, cuatro… times

David Moyes only prior home H2H meeting with Sevilla came in his ill-fated Real Sociedad tenure, though he did win 4-3, a result which if replicated would at least force extra time in this Europa League clash.

West Ham will be without the services of the influential Jarrod Bowen and main striker Michail Antonio for this, though it was Ukrainian Andriy Yarmolenko who made the headlines with his goal last time out to end a three-game losing run for the Hammers.

Should they produce a 2+ goal margin of victory for just the sixth time in their 21st home game of 2021/22, it would be the first time that West Ham reached a European quarter-final since 1980/81, though that will be tough against a Sevilla side unbeaten in their last eight meetings with English sides.

A home final on their minds

With the Europa League final scheduled to be held at Sevilla’s home stadium, they have extra motivation to at least hold out for a draw and progress from this tie. The visitors are winless in seven away games, though five of them ended level, thrice accompanied by a 1-1 scoreline.

On loan from Manchester United, Anthony Martial is expected to step in to fill the void left by Lucas Ocampos who is banned from this game. Expect the Frenchman to be amongst the action as he seeks a 12th goal contribution in his 15th meeting with West Ham (G6, A5).

By all accounts, this looks like it will be a tight affair, though West Ham’s need to score could leave them open at the back and as such, we predict that both teams will score in this game. However, a conservative 1-1 draw appears to be a likely outcome with both sides struggling for consistency.
