West Ham vs Manchester United Predictions

West Ham’s hopes of breaking into the Premier League four ended on Saturday as they slumped to a disastrous and unexpected 4-1 thrashing at home to Swansea. This result has left them six points adrift of 4th placed Manchester City and with a much worse goal difference. Mathematically it is still possible, but realistically there is no chance.

Not only did West Ham’s top four hopes end, but their chances of Europa League qualification took a hit too. They dropped down to 7th position and have Liverpool just a point behind them. Both of them have a game in hand over 6th placed Southampton, but they will still need to work hard to avoid missing out on European football all together.

The defeat to Swansea made it two defeats, two wins, and five draws in their last nine outings in all competitions, but it was their first Premier League loss since the start of February. The Upton Park faithful will certainly be expecting a better performance from the team in their final ever match at the stadium before they move next year.

Manchester United’s chances of Champions League qualification were given a major boost this weekend. They struggled to a 1-0 win over Norwich on Saturday before seeing Manchester City drop two points against Arsenal on Sunday, leaving the 5th place side just two points behind Man City and with a game in hand. A win on Tuesday would put them in the driving seat going into the final game of the season at home to Bournemouth.

The win against Norwich made it five wins and one draw since their last defeat, and while they haven’t been performing at their best they have been able to consistently grind out results when it matters. A top four finish ahead of their FA Cup Final would be a huge boost to the team and fans.

One of their recent wins was against West Ham at Upton Park in the FA Cup quarter final replay, and they actually performed very well there. This match is every bit as important as that one too, so I’m expecting the visitors to turn up again on Tuesday and get a win. Man United also have an excellent record against West Ham having gone unbeaten against them in six years.  Odds of 6/5 for a Manchester United win look good value too, and I’m going for another 2-1 correct score prediction at 8/1.
