Western Sydney Wanderers vs Macarthur FC Predictions

• Two of WS Wanderers’ three fixtures have seen under 2.5 goals scored.
• Under 2.5 goals has landed in each of Macarthur’s first three league games.
• Macarthur have conceded just one league goal this term.

Visitors leading the way

Despite just three goals in their first three matches, Macarthur are top of the Australian A-League. Since an opening day draw with Wellington Phoenix they are yet to concede and carved out back-to-back 1-0 wins, first at Sydney before getting past Central Coast Mariners last weekend. They did lose 2-0 in the week in the FFA Cup to Sydney FC but only after extra time.

It was their first loss in five and I’m backing their resolute defence to help them return to winning ways. One goal is enough when you’re not conceding and they have are averaging a goal a game so I’m predicting a 1-0 correct score here in favour of the league leaders.

How have the hosts started?

Western Sydney Wanderers are yet to taste defeat through three games and they recorded their first win of the season last week as they defeated Wellington 2-0 to move onto five points and into fifth place. However, they have drawn each of their first two home matches and failed to score in one of them. Two of their four goals this season came in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets who have the worst defensive record in the division as opposed to Macarthur who have the best.

They too suffered defeat in the FFA Cup in midweek but at the hands to lower league opposition which ended a six-game unbeaten run from the end of last season.

Five of the six matches these teams have contested so far in the league have seen under 2.5 goals scored and that’s why that is our main prediction here. No one has been able to really penetrate Macarthur’s defence as of yet and with Western Sydney scoring against less resolute opponents I think they could be in for a tough reality check here as they suffer a frustrating 1-0 defeat.
