Whitecaps vs Montreal Impact Betting Tips & Predictions

Both of these teams have picked their business very carefully during the off season. They have both retained their key players and kept the foundation of their teams’ solid and unchanged, and largely focused on bringing in specific players to strengthen their weaknesses and build their strength in depth up.

This should allow both the Canadians to enjoy a solid opening to the season. Whitecaps will be hoping to finish top of the Western Conference providing they can keep Pedro Morales fit and healthy, whilst Montreal Impact are looking to move into the top two of the Eastern Conference now that they have the exciting playmaker Harry Shipp on their books.

Montreal Impact will have to start the season without Didier Drogba though, and they’ll miss him massively. He came in the summer and lit the MLS up with his goalscoring prowess, which let Montreal Impact finish the season with five wins from their final six games in the MLS. They eventually lost in the Conference Semi Finals to eventual finalists Columbus Crew though.

Whitecaps lost at the same stage as Montreal Impact to MLS Cup winners Portland Timbers, a disappointment that summed up their end to the season. They lost six of their last ten matches in all competitions and only won once.

Six of Whitecaps’ last seven matches ended with fewer than three goals scored, and with Didier Drogba out injured I can see their defence performing well again. Montreal Impact have kept three clean sheets in their last six competitive matches as well, so odds of 17/20 for Under 2.5 Goals look good value in this one. I’m going for a 1-0 win for Whitecaps at 6/1 as well.
