Whitecaps vs San Jose Earthquakes Predictions
Whitecaps enjoyed an excellent season in the MLS Western Conference last year as they finished 2nd in the table, with only FC Dallas pipping them to the top spot. However, this season hasn’t gone quite so well so far.
They come into this game down in 7th position in the table with 30 points from their opening 24 games. This puts them two points adrift of the playoff spots and with all the teams below them having a game in hand they could find themselves dropping as low as 9th once those are taken into account.
Whitecaps have generally performed pretty inconsistently this season, which has been their downfall. They have won just one of their last six matches, drawing three times and losing twice. So far they have only managed to win three games in a row once this season and have failed to extend an unbeaten streak for more than four games all season. Just two of their last 11 MLS games have resulted in a full haul of points for them as well.
San Jose Earthquakes are no better in the form department. They have only managed to win one of their last 12 in all competitions, drawing seven times and losing four. Each of their last three outings in the MLS have ended all square as well and their total of ten draws in their 22 league matches so far makes them one of the draw specialists in the MLS.
This failure to win games leaves them down in 8th place in the MLS Western Conference, although a win on Saturday would take them a point clear of Whitecaps with two games in hand. If they can use their games in hand to full effect they would find themselves in 5th position.
Getting a win on Saturday isn’t a likely prospect for San Jose Earthquakes though. They are winless away from home in the MLS this season, although their six draws in their last ten away days shows that they are resilient to defeat.
Whitecaps have drawn three of their last five home matches in the MLS as well, so backing a draw at odds of 12/5 looks like a very high value bet. I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2 as well.
