Zulte-Waregem vs RFC Seraing Predictions

  • Zulte-Waregem only failed to score in four of 17 home games last season, winning five and drawing four.
  • Seraing lost seven of their last nine away games in 2021-22 and conceded a total of 19 goals.

Hosts have enough going for them against struggling Seraing

Zulte-Waregem can probably feel more optimistic about the season ahead than Seraing and should earn the points in their opening weekend clash. There has been a big turnover of players and staff at Elindus Arena with Essevee gambling on a relatively untested coach, Mbaye Leye, who is in his second ever job after working at Standard Liege a couple of years ago.

He has been bedding down a few new faces in pre-season, which they wrapped up last week with a 1-1 draw at home to Valenciennes.

Seraing, who narrowly escaped relegation from the Belgian top-flight last season, appointed journeyman coach Jose Jeunechamps in the summer but they seem beset with the same struggles as last term when they scored a league-worst 30 goals.

Visitors shorn of attacking duo

Beaten 4-0 by Racing Genk in their most recent friendly, Seraing can be opposed with confidence here as they lack a focal point in attack. Youssef Maziz and Georges Mikautadze both returned to parent club Metz in the summer with the loss of the 14-goal Georgian sniper looking like a major blow.

Zulte should win, but equally both teams to score no is a good play here given Seraing’s woeful attack. Although they lost eight home games last term, Essevee won three and drew one of their five home games against fellow bottom six clubs. This game looks like being an early-season relegation scrap, so the home side have previous for holding firm. A 1-0 Zulte-Waregem win has legs as it may take only one goal for the three points to be secured.
