      Aston Villa vs Millwall Predictions

Aston Villa’s rush towards the playoffs is set to continue on Monday, as they host Millwall at Villa Park. The Villains are in fine form, which has sent them clear in fifth place in the Championship table. The Easter Monday clash offers a chance for Villa to book their place in the playoffs, should results go their way. Can Dean Smith’s men wrap up another win to keep up their promotion push?

The Villains are on the back of a nine-game winning run which has made them one of the frontrunners for the top flight. The hosts are in flying form, which took them from midtable to become the league’s form side, while they’re almost a shoo-in for the top six. They are likely to be one of the most dangerous opponents in the playoffs, especially if their winning run continues into Monday’s meeting with the Lions.

Millwall have ambitions of their own, as they look to avoid a return to League One. After a 1-1 draw with Brentford on Friday – their third successive draw – the visitors are now just one place above the drop zone. They do have a three-point cushion over Rotherham and a game in hand, but they still need points on the board to make sure of their place in the Championship.

The hosts come into this one with 22 goals behind them in that nine-game run. They’ve looked fantastic going forward, which has seen them average 2.29 goals per game at home this term. The Villains have converted an impressive 14% of their chances at Villa Park this season, so they should fancy their chances of scoring against a Millwall side who have shipped 35 goals on the road this term. We can’t see the Lions holding back this rampant Villa outfit.

However, the issue for the hosts is at the back. While they’ve scored twice in 13 of their last 14 home matches, they’ve also seen both teams score in 71% of their matches here. That high scoring streak has seen over 2.5 goals land in 12 of Villa’s last 13 games at Villa Park. Given that Millwall have scored in their last six away games, we think both teams will score here. With Villa in fine form at home, we should see another strong display from them, along with a high scoring clash. With that in mind, we think there’s fantastic value in backing a home win and over 2.5 goals to be scored in the game.
