Belgium vs England Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in seven of Belgium’s last eight games.
  • Belgium have won 14 of their last 16 games.
  • England haven’t conceded more than two goals since a 3-1 extra-time loss to Holland in June 2019.
  • Romelu Lukaku has scored 15 goals in 12 appearances for club and country this season.

Euro 2020 contenders go lock horns on Sunday

Belgium overcame an early deficit at home to Switzerland this week thanks to a second-half Michy Batshuayi brace, and they be hoping to follow up that friendly victory with a meaningful win over UEFA Nations League rivals England on Sunday.

The hosts, who are joint second favourites for Euro 2020 alongside England, head into this game having won an impressive 14 of their last 16 games, but their sole defeat in that run came at Wembley last month in this competition.

The Red Devils unquestionably have one of the most potent attacking forces in world football, and that is illustrated by the fact they have scored in every game since their World Cup semi-final defeat against France over two years ago.

England can trouble a fragile Belgium back-line

The defensive side of their game, however, is undergoing something of a transition at the moment as players such as Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Thomas Vermaelen begin to show their age. They have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight games, and the visitors attacking threat is by no means insignificant.

England put in an assured display in their 3-0 drubbing of the Republic of Ireland in midweek and the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin found the net once again as Harry Kane was rested.

The Spurs talisman is expected back in the starting lineup on Sunday though, and with England scoring in ten of their last 12 matches they certainly have the firepower to trouble this Belgian back line. Backing both teams to score looks a great value option as these two heavyweights tussle for the chance to end 2020 at the top of their group.

Lukaku can lead Red Devils to victory

Unfortunately for the Three Lions, we are expecting a Belgium win here. Belgium have won eight of their last nine home games and have conceded exactly one goal in each of their last four. England haven’t conceded more than twice since their extra-time loss to Holland last June, so a 2-1 correct score prediction is our choice.

A few faces stand out as contenders to find the net, but none more so than Romelu Lukaku. The former Manchester United man has an incredible record of 55 goals in 87 international appearances and has found the net three times in his last two games for Belgium, including one against England last month. He has scored in 15 goals in 12 appearances for club and country this season, so backing him to find the net looks appealing.
