Having won just one of their first six games of the Serie A season, Sassuolo have posted three wins from their subsequent six outings, only losing to heavyweights Inter Milan, Atalanta, and Napoli. Having hit the net 10 times during that run, Alessio Dionisi’s men appear close to getting back to their best, and Saturday’s trip to Empoli represents a chance for them to continue their improvement.

Sassuolo have not lost to a team outside of Serie A’s top eight this season, beating Torino, Salernitana and Verona in their last six outings. Despite the loss of several key attackers, Dionisi’s team have continued to impress going forwards; only Napoli and Inter have managed more shots on target in Serie A this season, and their tally of 15.5 expected goals (xG) ranks them in the division’s top half.

Empoli, meanwhile, have a dire record against Sassuolo, losing five of their last seven head-to-head meetings with the Neroverdi, and have only recorded two wins all season – against struggling duo Bologna and Monza. Sassuolo set for victory

Given Sassuolo’s excellent record against Empoli and their recent improvement, backing Dionisi’s men for victory against a side with just four wins from their last 34 matches looks prudent.
