Levante vs Barcelona Predictions

Levante could try to pull up the shutters

Barcelona are the heavy favourites to follow up their opening weekend win with another against Levante at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia on Saturday evening. Hansi Flick’s side brushed Mallorca aside with ease thanks to early goals from Raphinha and Ferran Torres, before Lamine Yamal added some gloss in stoppage time.

The La Liga champions ought to have too much class for Levante, who clinched promotion back to the top-flight last season by winning the second division. Julian Calero’s side were quite expansive on the face of it, scoring 69 goals and conceding 42 for the highest combined goal tally among the top four.

But Calero will be tempted to put up the shutters for this game in order to avoid the sort of hammering that Barce dished out a few times last term when Flick’s men recorded seven away wins by three goals or more.

Torres will be eager to impress

Despite that stat, Barca’s scorelines were more efficient than spectacular at the end of the last campaign when they won each of their last four La Liga road trips. All of those games featured fewer than four goals as Barca registered clean sheets at Leganes, Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao.

And given they kept Mallorca down to a mere four total shots and an expected goals figure of 0.2, there is every chance they blank Levante with a similar performance.

Back Barca to win with fewer than four goals in the game, which returns similar odds to the win to nil, but with potentially less of a risk to it. Ferran Torres, who was brought up through the academy of Levante’s city rivals Valencia, will also be eager to impress on his return.
