Liverpool vs Stoke City Predictions

Liverpool’s front three put in another scintillating performance in midweek as they went 5-0 up in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Roma. That is until they completely lost concentration in the closing ten minutes, conceding two goals to pull Roma back into the tie ahead of their trip to Italy next week.

This is likely to yield wholesale changes from Jurgen Klopp as he looks to avoid the same fate as Barcelona in the quarter finals, so we could see a fair few familiar faces rested on Saturday. Even so, Stoke’s chances of getting a result at Anfield look very slim indeed.

Liverpool have lost just two of their 14 Premier League games in 2018 and have won nine of them. Only one of these failures to win came at Anfield as well, leaving them with seven wins and one draw in their last eight home league games. They have scored an incredible 27 goals in this time period as well and are second only to Manchester City in the goals department this season.

Stoke, on the other hand, have conceded a league high 65 goals this season and scored just 32 at the other end. Unsurprisingly this has put them in deep relegation trouble, and with just three games left to play, they find themselves four points off safety and with the four teams directly above them holding a game in hand.

Last time out they did manage to wring a point out of their home match against Burnley, but they haven’t won a Premier League match since January and away from home that run stretches back to October. That 1-0 win over Watford happens to be their only away victory too, with ten of their other 16 ended in a defeat.

Even with a rotated squad we can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win here. They have been phenomenal going forward lately, and Stoke’s defence are unlikely to be able to cope with them. Seven of Liverpool’s last eight home league games have seen at least three goals too, and all of Stoke’s away games against the rest of the Premier League top six have seen at least three goals. The Potters have conceded a huge 23 goals in these five games, so backing a Liverpool Win and Over 2.5 Goals looks a good bet along with a 3-1 correct score predictions.
