Sassuolo vs Chievo Predictions

At this point, Chievo are playing for pride. The latest round of results left them 16 points shy of 17th place, with only 21 points left to play for. Even their mild points deduction can’t be blamed for their failure this season, as they’ve been sleepwalking towards the drop. The Gialloblu head to Sassuolo this week aiming to boost a dreadful points tally, but can they get anything at the MAPEI Stadium?

Sassuolo don’t have too much to worry about, with a seven-point cushion over the bottom three. At this last stage, they are unlikely to be pulled into any danger. However, the hosts had featured in the European race at one point this season, so this isn’t the greatest ending to their season. Their home form has been a major issue, while the Neroverdi are coming into this one with just a point from their last four matches.

That makes this a trip to look forward to for Chievo, despite their own awful record this term. The visitors have managed to win only once all season, seeing off second from bottom Frosinone at home. Otherwise, they’ve been trying to bridge a gap to the other top tier sides, with the Gialloblu looking far off the required standard for this level. Will they be able to restore any pride with a result here?

The visitors are a tough side to back, as they approach the anniversary of their last away success. They beat Bologna in May 2018, their sole away win in 29 attempts in Serie A. They are hardly likely to add to that this week, despite Sassuolo facing problems of their own. The Neroverdi are coming off a run which has seen them win just once in 12 home matches – which stretches all the way back to September.

The hosts have failed to win in eight league games, a run which took them from European outsiders to 14th place. They’ve picked up only one win since Christmas, which does suggest that Chievo can get something here. The Gialloblu have lost just once in five visits to this ground, while three of their last six clashes have finished level. Sassuolo have fallen far since winning the reverse fixture in early November, so we see another draw. The hosts have drawn seven of their last 11 games here, so we think backing a point is great value considering the form.
