Australia Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Denmark must win to have any chance of qualifying whilst a draw will likely be enough for Australia. We’re backing the outsiders to avoid defeat at a value price!

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

These sides have scored just three goals between them and this could be another low scoring game with so much at stake.

Australia vs Denmark Predictions

  • Australia and Denmark have scored only three goals between them so far.
  • Australia are unbeaten in six of their last seven internationals.
  • A draw will be enough to see Australia qualify for the knockout phase.
  • Riley McGree scored in his final game for Middlesbrough ahead of the World Cup.

History beckons for Australia

All outcomes are still possible in the final round of games in World Cup Group D with Australia, Denmark and Tunisia battling it out for that coveted second-placed spot.

It’s advantage Australia though as they need only a draw to qualify, although they will be relying on France to avoid defeat against Tunisia in the other game in that case.

Meanwhile, Denmark must win to have any chance of qualifying and should they do so, only a big upset from the Tunisians would be enough to stop them.

Australia may prove to be plucky customers

Although they were humbled 4-1 by France on the opening day, Australia bounced back in style with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tunisia. That result means that they can now equal their best ever World Cup finish if they can avoid defeat against Denmark, who are arguably one of the worst underperforming sides at this World Cup.

The Aussies are ranked significantly lower than Denmark by FIFA but they’ve showed that they are not here just to make up the numbers, despite what the odds may suggest ahead of this encounter.

Whilst he hasn’t played a full 90′ yet, Riley McGree has looked a threat in forward areas for Australia and his stunning scissor kick against Norwich for club side Middlesbrough is enough for us to go for a tentative goalscorer selection with such few obvious options available here.

Disappointing Denmark could be on the next plane home

A dire draw with Tunisia followed up by a slender defeat against France in the last round leave Denmark teetering on the brink of World Cup elimination, a shocking performance indeed for the recent EURO 2020 semi-finalists.

Only victory will see Denmark qualify here, and even then they will be relying on favours from elsewhere. Boss Kasper Hjulmand remains hopeful that they’ll do that, but they have been slow so far with little potency going forward.

Demark’s only scored goal during the tournament so far was scored by centre-half Andreas Christensen and as such, we’re not willing to take the 1/2 price on a side that was led by Andreas Cornelius last time out. As such, we’re going for Australia in the double chance market for a great value price!
