Borussia Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid Predictions
- Borussia Dortmund have won six of their last eight games
- Atletico Madrid have won just one of their last seven away fixtures
- Four of Dortmund’s last seven matches have been settled by a single goal
- Both teams have scored in four of Atletico Madrid’s last five games
Dortmund can make most of home advantage
An 81st-minute strike from Sebastien Haller in the first leg kept alive Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Atletico Madrid and Die Schwarzgelben can make home advantage count in the return fixture.
Dortmund looked especially nervy in the opening stages of the first leg and were 2-0 down after 32 minutes against Atleti at the Wanda Metropolitano following goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino.
But as the game progressed, Dortmund grew into it and they saw 67 per cent of the ball in the Spanish capital.
They managed to breach Atleti with nine minutes remaining and it is all to play for heading to Germany.
This time around Dortmund will benefit from having the famous Yellow Wall behind them and they have generally enjoyed a pretty strong 2024.
Atleti’s road struggles set to continue
They have won six of their last eight matches in all competitions with that streak having featured a huge 2-0 win over rivals Bayern Munich – their first win in Der Klassiker in five years.
Aside from the Atleti game, their only other defeat in that run came against fellow top-four hopefuls Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and that was a match which could have swung either way.
As for Atletico Madrid, their road form is questionable and punters should be wary of backing them at Signal Iduna Park.
Atletico have won only one of their last seven away fixtures in all competitions, having lost four of those games.
Fullkrug could return to form at the right time
They also failed to even find the net in any of those defeats against Sevilla, Inter, Athletic Bilbao and Cadiz and they could be in for a testing night.
That said, the first leg showed there was not a great deal separating these sides and a bet on 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund is the way to go in the correct score betting.
As for a goalscorer pick, Niclas Fullkrug could make an appeal.
A nine-game scoreless run has certainly put the pressure on former Werder Bremen man Fullkrug but boss Edin Terzic has backed him to come good.
And although he was underwhelming in the first leg against Atletico Madrid, he should be handed another starting opportunity in the second leg.
He has scored 11 goals and laid on eight assists in the German Bundesliga this season and he could be a decent value pick to get on the scoresheet.
