Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Bristol City are still unbeaten in the Championship, though they conceded twice in their 4-2 win over struggling Hull in their last home assignment. Oxford meanwhile, hit two goals in each of their last two games against Leicester and Coventry.

Bristol City 3-2

Reason for tip

Oxford showed spirit in recent back-to-back 2-2 draws with strong Leicester and Coventry sides, and the U’s can make life difficult for their hosts. Bristol City have scored at least three goals in three of their five league fixtures this term however, so back the Robins to emerge with the points from a high-scoring tussle.

Bristol City vs Oxford United Predictions

  • Oxford have scored two goals in three of their last four Championship fixtures, despite failing to win on each occasion.
  • Bristol City have won three and drawn two of their first five Championship assignments of the new campaign.
  • Both teams have scored in three of Bristol City’s five league matches this season.

Expect goals at both ends at Ashton Gate

Bristol City inched their way closer to the top of the Championship last weekend when they eased to a 3-0 win over crisis club Sheffield Wednesday, though their task against an improving Oxford could be trickier.

The high-flying Robins are still unbeaten after five games of the new campaign in the second tier, though they had to work hard to beat Hull in their last assignment at Ashton Gate (4-2), conceding 20 shots and 2.60 in expected goals before their eventual victory.

Oxford (22nd), who sit two places behind Hull (20th) in the current Championship standings, will be determined to bring the nuisance factor to Bristol on Sunday.

The U’s are still searching for a duck-breaking win, though they matched strong Leicester (2-2) and Coventry (2-2) sides in their last two games, with on-loan Tottenham youngster William Lankshear netting crucial goals in each contest.

Oxford have scored twice in three of their last four Championship fixtures overall, so they are fancied to score again on Sunday, making the BTTS market an attractive prospect, however, any goals the visitors plunder are likely to be of the consolation variety.

With Scott Twine, Anis Mehmeti and Emil Riis developing great chemistry as an attacking trio, Bristol City have scored three or more goals in three of their five league matches this season, and the Robins have the firepower to outgun Oxford. With that in mind, I’m looking towards a 3-2 Bristol City win for my correct score forecast.
