Bristol City vs Portsmouth Predictions

Bristol City should be backed to beat Portsmouth at home in the Championship on Thursday. There is a gulf between the teams in the standings, with Bristol City possessing a clear edge if the league table is any guide.

They are eighth in the Championship, 13 places and 11 points above Portsmouth, with ten wins, six draws and eight losses from their 24 games this season. The visitors have won six, drawn seven and lost ten.

The visitors are out of form. Portsmouth have failed to win any of their last nine Championship away games, and have lost five of the last seven.

Bristol City have been prolific in attack at home, scoring an average of 1.67 goals a game in their 12 Championship games against bottom-half teams this season.

Bristol City have kept four clean sheets in the last five Championship meetings with Portsmouth, who have failed to keep a shutout in 16 of their last 18 league games. They have conceded 16 goals away from home this season – an average of 1.60 per game from ten matches.

A 2-0 win for Bristol City looks the best correct-score bet. There have been under 2.5 goals in four of Portsmouth’s last six Championship games and three of Bristol City’s ten successes this season have been by two goals.
