Burnley vs Birmingham Predictions
- Burnley have won seven of their last eight Championship games, only losing to fellow promotion contenders Sheffield United in that run.
- Vincent Kompany’s men have claimed 28 points at home this season – a league-high tally, and are unbeaten at Turf Moor.
- Birmingham City’s win over Reading last time out is their only victory in their last four league games.
High-flying Clarets set for Christmas cheer
Burnley may have seen their EFL Cup campaign halted by Manchester United last time out, but the Clarets have won seven of their last eight Championship matches to give themselves an eight-point cushion to third-placed Blackburn Rovers, and Tuesday’s meeting with Birmingham City represents a chance for them to take another step towards a Premier League return. Having boasted a fine record at Turf Moor this season, Vincent Kompany’s men will be confident.
Indeed, 28 of Burnley’s 47 points have been won at home, and they are the only Championship side to have an unbeaten record on their own ground this season (everyone else has lost at least two games). As well as averaging over two goals per game at Turf Moor, Burnley have conceded under a goal per game, and they have not dropped points on home soil since a 1-1 draw against Stoke City in October – winning five consecutive games and scoring 15 goals since then.
Birmingham did clinch a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley two months ago, and John Eustace’s men will be no pushovers on Tuesday. However, Birmingham – who had just 33 per cent of the ball when they last met Burnley – have won just one of their last four games, and six of their eight league victories this term have come against teams currently 12th or lower in the Championship table.
Home comforts to benefit Burnley
While Birmingham – one of just five Championship teams to average under a concession per game this season – are unlikely to be blown away, Burnley’s irresistible home form makes them worth backing for victory.
Meanwhile, Burnley have scored multiple goals in seven of their last eight games, with the only exception in that run being their defeat at Old Trafford, so a routine 2-0 home win may represent a decent correct score prediction.
