A difficult few weeks

After an excellent start to the season, fans of Cambridge United will have been delighted with their progress and will have been dreaming of a challenge for the promotion places come the end of the campaign. However, the festive period was not kind to the U’s and things have not exactly got much better since as Cambridge have managed just a single win in their last 10 league matches.

It is not as if they have been able to claim draws in that time either as they have lost seven of their last nine outings and, perhaps unsurprisingly, they have started to plummet down the table. It is easy to identify their issues too, as they frequently struggle to find the back of the net and this is demonstrated perfectly by the fact that they scored just once in their last five league matches.

Danger lurks in an in form visiting side

If Cambridge are going to end this poor run that they find themselves on, then they are going to have to overcome a Colchester United side who are enjoying their own best spell of the season. The visitors come into this match having avoided defeat in each of their last 15 league matches and knowing that three points this weekend will not only do wonders for their play-off credentials, but will also fire them into the running for the automatic promotion places.

However, even though that undefeated streak remains in tact, there have been one or two small gripes that they have to address in their most recent performances as the visitors have drawn far too many of their matches in that undefeated streak, largely down to being unable to find the back of the net on a regular basis. However, Tuesday’s win over league leaders Swindon Town was something which should prove a major confidence boost and the Colchester fans will be hoping that this can be used as a springboard to greater success.

The pain is set to continue

Unfortunately for the hosts, the misery they have suffered looks set to continue for at least one more match as they do not look like they have the tools to stop their visitors from claiming the points. The hosts are simply in too poor of a run of form to prevent a Colchester side who are on a fantastic undefeated run and who defeated the league leaders just a few short games ago.
