Carlisle vs Morecambe Predictions

  • Carlisle are currently in 21st place and have won just once in their last five games.
  • Morecambe have picked up two wins in their last five games but are currently 23rd.
  • Carlisle have scored 33 goals this season, a rate of exactly one per game but conceded 50, 1.51 goals per game on average.
  • Morecambe have only scored 32 times this season, less than a goal a game but conceded 1.64 goals per game on average.

Can Carlisle find a win and pull clear of the relegation zone?

Carlisle haven’t really enjoyed much of this season, winning just eight time, but they aren’t really in relegation danger due to the poor form of Stevenage and only one team going down this season. Despite this the side will be keen to find another win and pull further clear of the bottom spot just in case Stevenage pull off a shock.

Carlisle have scored an average of a goal a game this season with 33 scored and they’ve really lacked a genuine goal threat for much of the season. Defensively they haven’t been much better, conceding 50 goals so far whilst their record at home doesn’t make good reading with just 13 scored and 21 conceded.

Will Morecambe make it three wins in six?

Morecambe haven’t been in awful form in recent weeks, beating both Walsall and Macclesfield and picking up a creditable draw against Mansfield but they still find themselves over eight points clear of bottom club, Stevenage. With 12 games of the season remaining there is still time for Stevenage to make a late rally and the Morecambe players will be keen to get as many points on the board as possible.

One of the main issues for the team has been a lack of goals with the side averaging less than a goal a game so far this season. They’ve also conceded more than anyone else in League Two, with an average of 1.64 goals conceded per game. Both of these stats have improved over the past five games though and Derek Adams will be keen to keep that momentum going.

Who wins the battle of the basement sides?

This match doesn’t inspire much in the imagination with both teams struggling so much and we think this one doesn’t see much in the way of goalmouth action. As a result, we’re backing this game to see under 2.5 goals and both teams not to score. This gives us some generous odds in a game that we believe will be settled by one goal.

Neither side is averaging anything more than a goal a game this season and we can’t really see that changing this weekend as both teams continue to struggle. Morecambe carry a little more form into the game though and have a slightly heightened sense of desperation so we’re backing them to pick up a vital 1-0 win.
