Celtic vs Rangers Predictions
- Rangers are unbeaten in normal time in five meetings with Celtic,
- Celtic have failed to win five of their last eight games.
- Rangers are unbeaten in their last six domestic games.
Old Firm pair meet at Hampden
Holders Celtic face Glasgow rivals Rangers in the semi-finals of the League Cup at Hampden on Sunday in what should be a close game.
The Bhoys overcame Rangers on penalties to lift the League Cup last season but they are winless in four meetings since that success (L2, D2).
The two rivals have met in the Premiership once this season, a goalless draw at Ibrox back in August, but there have been significant changes in both camps since that stalemate.
Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is now in charge at Rangers, while Martin O’Neill has stepped in to manage Celtic on an interim basis after Brendan Rodgers’ exit.
Rangers are the underdogs and the best angle looks to be backing them to either win or draw in the double chance market. Rohl’s tenure got off to a poor start with a Europa League defeat at Brann, but they have won back-to-back games since that loss and are on a six-game unbeaten run domestically.
Rangers also have a strong recent record against Celtic with two wins and two draws in the last four meetings, and prior to that they lost the final of this competition to their city rivals after spot kicks.’
Celtic crushed mid-table Falkirk 4-0 in O’Neill’s only game in charge so far but their form in general has been concerning. The Hoops have just three wins in their last eight games and they haven’t won away from Parkhead since September, so Rangers look capable of at least avoiding defeat.
A 1-1 draw is the correct score play as the last two games have finished level. Rangers have have only managed one clean sheet in their last eight games so they may struggle to keep Celtic at bay, but they can still at least drag this tie into extra time.
