Budamir miss was a gift for Valencia

The scramble to land a European berth continues when seventh-placed Valencia entertains eighth-placed Real Betis at the Mestalla on Saturday.

Los Che are unbeaten at home in La Liga since September with six wins and five draws during that impressive run. Ruben Baraja’s side picked up a win that perhaps should have been only a draw on Monday night when Ante Budamir’s botched penalty meant they left Osasuna with a 1-0 victory.

The Serbian’s miss meant Valencia have now recorded five clean sheets in their last seven La Liga games while ensuring they have the third-best defensive record in the top flight.

Betis’ leaky defence is becoming a problem

In contrast, no team has conceded more goals than Real Betis in the last four matches with Manuel Pellegrini’s side shipping three against Villarreal and Girona, two at Rayo Vallecano and one in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo.

Their leaky defence might need some luck to come out of the Mestalla unscathed, Although Valencia have failed to score in two of their last four at home, those blanks came against much better-organised teams than Betis appear to be right now.

Valencia are worthy favourites for the win here and a win to nil could be possible if they maintain their current standards at the back.
