Chelsea vs Liverpool Predictions
After failing to win either of their opening two Premier League games, it looked like the romp to a 2nd Premier League title might not be as smooth as many had thought. But nobody could have predicted the depths they would sink to.
Their penalty shootout defeat to Stoke in midweek sent them crashing out of the Capital One Cup, and it made it just one win from Chelsea last seven games in all competitions.
This has left them out of the Capital One Cup, struggling in the Champions League, and their Premier League title defence is surely already over.
They sit in a dismal 15th position with just 11 points from their opening ten Premier League games, and the fact they needed a late equaliser at Stoke shows that they aren’t on the road to recovery yet.
Liverpool might be though. New manager Jurgen Klopp has obviously instilled a sense of work ethic into the Liverpool squad, with their players covering more ground in his opening game than in any of Brendan Rodgers’ matches.
They could only manage a draw though, and following that with a draw against Rubin Kazan and another against Southampton made it honours even for the 5th match in a row.
But Klopp managed to get his first victory in midweek as they beat Bournemouth 1-0 in the Capital One Cup.
This new high pressure tactic should suit a trip to Stamford Bridge perfectly. Jose Mourinho tends to focus on defensive stability, and with their defenders out of form and Liverpool ready to pounce on their mistakes I would expect Liverpool to open them up a number of times.
The bookies don’t seem to have cottoned on to Chelsea poor form yet (somehow.) They still have them as 21/20 favourites to win the match, despite Liverpool having not lost any of their last ten. I think this makes odds of 4/5 for a Liverpool Win or Draw Double Chance excellent value.
