The hosts have it all to do

The hosts had a tough start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign but have since given themselves a chance of heading to the World Cup for the playoffs. They’ve made hard work of games where they should be winning comfortably, particularly with the calibre of players at their disposal. They narrowly defeated Bolivia 3-2 thanks to an Alexis Sanchez brace but were unable to follow that victory up as they were thrashed 4-0 by Brazil. They now come into this match two points off of the playoff place and it means they need to win and hope that both Columbia and Peru lose their respective matches.

Uruguay comes into this one having already booked their place in the World Cup and can somewhat relax in their final qualification game. Many considered La Roja to be the third-best side ahead of this qualifying campaign, but on many occasions, they looked as though they might miss out on a spot in the elite competition. A managerial change appeared to do the trick, after accumulating just 16 points from 14 matches, Diego Alonso replaced Oscar Tabarez at the helm and following that appointment they were able to put back-to-back wins together and squeeze their way into the top four.

Both sides to get on the scoresheet

It’s win or bust for Chile here and they have to hope other results go their way. The hosts have conceded some easy goals against lesser opposition and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Uruguay exploit any gaps left in the Chile defence due to the hosts overcommitting in the attacking areas.
