Chivas Guadalajara vs Atletico Madrid Predictions
After only a narrow defeat against Fiorentina, Guadalajara may have fancied themselves to get something off Benfica last time out, and for a long time, it looked as though they would. In the end, the Mexicans were beaten by three goals to nil, though we shouldn’t be fooled by the score-line, as they once again caused problems and were competitive for large spells.
In terms of results, it’s been a dismal summer period for Guadalajara, who cannot seem to buy a win in friendly action. Since June, they’ve lost against River Plate, Boca Juniors, Fiorentina and Benfica, while they kicked off their new league campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Santos Laguna on Saturday.
However, while results have been poor, the Mexicans have delivered moments of promise, especially in this sphere. Against Fiorentina, they were unlucky, as they matched the Italians in terms of creativity. Had they scored from the spot, they would’ve walked away with a deserved draw.
Last time out, Guadalajara were beaten 3-0 by Benfica. Defensively, they once again struggled to stand firm when push came to shove, but the score-line was a tad harsh, as they again created some promising openings going forward. If they can increase their end-product, then the Mexican outfit could easily cause Atletico some problems, though their defensive antics do not bode well, especially since Atleti are one of the very best when it comes to being disciplined before pouncing on mistakes.
In terms of game time, Atletico haven’t had a busy pre-season, though that isn’t likely to worry boss Diego Simeone too much, after his team warmed up nicely for this fixture by beating Spanish Segunda side Numancia by three goals to nil a few days ago. On that occasion, Atleti’s defensive discipline was there for all to see, while as is so often the case, they wore their opponents down and showed their attacking quality in the second half.
Although the Spanish side are known for being defensively solid, it would be no surprise if they conceded their first goal of pre-season on Wednesday. After all, they’ve kept a clean sheet in only one of their previous four International Champions Cup matches, while Guadalajara continue to show forward promise.
In the betting, ‘Atletico to Win & Both Teams to Score’ stands out as a viable option. The Spaniards have the quality to get the job done against open-looking opponents, but the recent performances of the Mexicans suggest that they can do some damage going forward.
