      Coventry vs Lincoln City Predictions

      • 77% of Coventry City’s points have been earned at home.
      • Lincoln City have scored in 73% of their away matches.
      • 67% of Lincoln City’s points have been earned at home.

      Making St Andrews a fortress

Coventry City’s ongoing issues with the owners of the Ricoh Arena means that they have had to play outside of city for the last few months, but after agreeing a temporary ground share with Birmingham City, they have made St Andrews a bit of fortress. The Sky Blues currently boast the second best home record in League One with an impressive 24 points from their 11 matches on home soil, and they know that if they are to maintain this form into the rest of the campaign then it positions them strongly in terms of challenging for promotion.

Much of their success on home soil has come courtesy of their ability to keep the opposition at bay as they have conceded just eight times and with just one side managing to escape with the points so far, they have every reason to be satisfied with the arrangement. That’s not to say they are running away with things, however, as all but one of their wins have come courtesy of a single goal lead.

      Moving on is difficult

Life under boss Danny Cowley was pretty nice for fans of Lincoln City as he led the Imps to a couple of promotions and even got some silverware for the trophy cabinet. However, with Lincoln now in League One, it seems clear that Cowley thought he had taken them as far as he could and he left on for pastures new. But what of Lincoln now that he has gone?

Well, the Imps have not exactly been the form team and going into this weekend’s clash with Coventry, they have managed just three wins in their last nine outings and are staring down the barrel of relegation back into the fourth tier. The visitors are boosted by back to back wins in the build up to this clash but they have won just two of 11 matches on the road in the league and know that they face an uphill challenge to improve that record this weekend.

      One team has the edge

Both of these sides have enjoyed their life in front of their own fans much more than life on the road this season, but with the match taking place on Coventry’s “home” patch, that gives them the clear advantage in this fixture. The hosts have earned 77% of their points on home soil this season and have won seven of their 11 matches there to date. This, combined with the fact that Lincoln have lost seven of their 11 away matches and average just 0.91 goals per game on the road, suggests that backing a home win is the way to go.

In terms of a correct score tip, we think that the trend of Coventry winning by a one goal margin is set to continue. The hosts have scored in 82% of their matches at St Andrews and average 1.36 goals per game there. However, given that their visitors average just shy of a goal per game on the road and have only failed to score in 27% of their away matches, it is likely that the Sky Blues will have to score twice to take the win. Therefore, we are backing a 2-1 Coventry win in this fixture.
