Denmark vs Belgium Predictions

  • Belgium have won seven of their last nine away games.
  • Denmark have only lost three times since September 2018, with two of those coming against Belgium.
  • Romelu Lukaku has scored 22 goals in his last 22 appearances for Belgium.

Belgium off to a flier in Saint-Petersburg

This could be the last chance for Belgium’s golden generation to live up to their billing and they certainly made a good case for themselves on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku proved his worth as one of the best strikers in the world as he scored a brace either side of a Thomas Meunier goal as Belgium hammered a hapless Russia side 3-0 in Saint-Petersburg, and the Belgians can do it again as the away side in Copenhagen on Thursday.

Danes to struggle in Copenhagen

Football was the last thing on anybody’s mind by the time the final whistle blew in Copenhagen on Saturday after the distressing collapse of Christian Eriksen and it’s completely understandable that the Denmark players struggled to find the right frame of mind in that defeat to Finland.

They are a much better side than that 1-0 loss suggests but without their talisman they will find it hard to deal with the quality of Belgium. They have only lost three times since September 2018 and two of those losses came against Belgium in their Nations League ties.

Lukaku to continue goalscoring form

Denmark conceded six goals across those two ties and it will come as no surprise to anyone that Romelu Lukaku scored two of them.

The Inter Milan forward has cemented himself as one of the world’s best strikers in the last couple of seasons and is Belgium’s leading goalscorer with some 62 goals. His brace against Russia made it 22 goals in his last 22 international appearances and backing him to punish Denmark again is appealing.

Belgium stars too strong for Denmark

As far as the overall result goes, it’s hard to look beyond Belgium. They have won seven of their last nine away games and won 2-0 in Copenhagen back in September.

I expect a repeat of that 2-0 scoreline, too. Belgium have scored exactly twice in four of their last nine away matches and while it should be comfortable this is likely to be a slightly sterner test than Russia provided.
