Derby County vs Hull Predictions
These two sides could potentially meet again in the play-offs although the Rams still have some work to do to ensure they make them while Hull are still hopeful of automatic promotion. Derby have had a very poor 2016 so far to fall away from contention for a top two spot. They’ve taken just 16 points from 15 league games this calendar year which is a pitiful return for a side that has plenty of quality in it. They were beaten 2-1 at Cardiff at the weekend but have won their last 3 at the iPro with Blackburn, Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest the visitors.
Hull will provide them with a much sterner test than all those sides though. The Tigers were 4-0 winners against Bristol City on Saturday and looked refreshed following a tough run of results and congested fixture schedule prior to the international break. They are 5 points better off than their opponents having played a game fewer but are still 4 points off 2nd place Middlesbrough and their automatic promotion ambitions will be hanging by a thread if they lose here.
This is a tough game to call but Derby have been so unconvincing over a prolonged period of time now that you’d be inclined to favour Hull. The Tigers still have a lot of players with Premier League quality in their ranks and they have won 4 of their 7 away games in the league since the turn of the year. It’s hard to see there being may goals though as 5 of Hull’s last 6 away games have finished with 1-0 scorelines, as have 3 of Derby’s last 4 home games. One goal may settle this and backing Hull to win 1-0 at 11/2 might be the way to go.
