United hoping for business as usual

While they did come into the season as one of the favourites to lift the Championship title, Dundee United’s work so far this campaign is still very impressive. After 18 matches, United are 13 points clear at the top and, having won 15 of said outings, they are proving close to unstoppable in the second tier.

With nine straight wins behind them, during which they’ve scored an average of 2.22 goals a game and kept seven clean sheets, United have plenty of momentum behind them coming into Friday’s derby. Having already defeated Dundee twice this campaign, via 6-2 and 2-0 margins, confidence will be sky high in home ranks and those taking to the pitch will be assured of their ability to secure victory.

Dundee looking to cause an upset

Meanwhile, after dropping down from the Premiership, Dundee were expected to be United’s closest rivals for the Championship title but things haven’t really gone to plan thus far. After 18 matches, the side sit in fourth place with 28 points and aren’t showing anywhere near the level of consistency their hosts are.

Indeed, Dundee have almost lost as many games as they’ve won this season, winning on eight occasions and losing six times. They do bring back-to-back wins into the game but, prior to that, hadn’t won in four attempts and their performances in this derby so far this season leave little reason for confidence.

United are clear favourites

Ultimately, Dundee United have to go down as huge favourites to claim the bragging rights in this one. They are in outstanding form, have outclassed Dundee twice already this campaign and generally look a far stronger outfit than the visitors.

All things considered, we see good value in backing the hosts and doing so with a -1 handicap in place. Dundee United are scoring goals for fun and aren’t conceding often. Given the manner in which they’ve beaten Dundee twice already, we fancy them to win by more than a single goal, via  a 2-0 margin of victory.
