      Espanyol vs Real Betis Predictions

Espanyol and Betis are both sitting relatively comfortably in mid-table and are unlikely to have a particularly eventful end to the season. A good run of form could yet push Espanyol into Europa League contention though and they ought to have enough to come out on top here with home advantage.

They are 4 places but 9 points above Betis in the standings and have certainly been the more impressive of the two sides. Quique Sánchez Flores has once again shown he is a very capable coach in this league and his side are in decent form with only 1 defeat in their last 5 games. At home, they’ve been particularly impressive. Espanyol have won 6 of their last 8 home fixtures in La Liga, losing just once and they’ve beaten better sides that Betis during that run.

They’ve scored an excellent 1.79 goals per game at home this term and have managed to keep clean sheets in 32% of their league games overall, which is also good for a mid-table outfit. A much more solid base this season has given their few creative players more chance to shine and up top Gerard Moreno is having a fine season in front of goal. Only 5 players in La Liga have scored more goals than him and with goals in 3 of his last 5 appearances for the club, backing Moreno to score anytime at 13/8 looks to offer real value here.

Betis look to have done enough to ensure there is no late season battle against the drop but they haven’t made significant strides forward and with one or two of their key players in their mid-30’s, they could do with some fresh blood in the summer. They’ve struggled on their travels this term and new coach Víctor Sánchez has done little to improve on that. Betis have lost 7 of their last 9 away games in La Liga and 69% of their away games overall this season.

Given that and Espanyol’s strong home record, backing Espanyol to win at 11/10 looks to offer really good value here.
