FC Porto to Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Porto’s recent home form has not been great, but they won 3-0 away last week and will be boosted by the return of left-sided duo Galeno and Wendell. Boavista have lost their last four away league games. Also, Porto have won seven of the last eight home derbies, scoring at least two goals in seven.

FC Porto 2-0

Reason for tip

Porto have scored at least two goals in seven of their last nine home league matches and have won seven of the last eight home derbies, scoring at least two goals in seven. A 2-0 Porto win has cropped up several times in recent derby history and the hosts have no incentive to score more than they need to secure a victory.

FC Porto vs Boavista Predictions

  • Porto have won seven of the last eight home derbies, scoring at least two goals in seven
  • Boavista have lost their last four away league games
  • Porto have scored at least two goals in seven of their last nine home league matches

Porto under pressure to pick up three points

The pressure will be on both clubs for different reasons when Porto host Boavista in the derby on Sunday evening. Porto remain third, but could still be ousted from that position and sent into the Europa League qualifiers by Sporting Braga.

Boavista begin the penultimate round of Primeira Liga fixtures in 14th place and are just three points ahead of Portimonense in the relegation play-off spot.

But after taking only three points during a winless run of seven games, coach Jorge Simao must be wondering if and when the next point might be coming.

Chequered Ones facing checkmate

The Chequered Ones have scored just four goals during that run and lost all four of their away games since the first week of March. It would be madness to expect them to get anything at the Dragao, although they do say the form book can go out of the window in derbies.

Boavista have not won a derby since 2007 and they were fortunate to cling on for a point against the Dragons at the Bessa in January when Sergio Conceicao’s side peppered their goal with 22 total shots for an expected goals (xG) of 2.73.

The returns of Brazilian duo Galeno and Wendell on their left-hand side should enable them to create plenty and overpower Boavista for the three points they need.
