FC Porto to Win

Reason for tip

Porto have won nine of their last 10 home games and they’ve won each of their last four home clashes with Italian sides, beating a different team on each occasion. Inter haven’t won in their last three away trips and they have won just four of their last 15 Champions League trips, failing to beat Bayern Munich and Barcelona in their last two. The Dragons have won four of their last five games in this competition.

FC Porto 2-1

Reason for tip

Inter Milan conceded five goals across their visits to Bayern and Barca and they have lost their last two away games by a single goal. Porto have conceded in their last four games and they scored exactly twice in their last two Champions League home games.

Mehdi Taremi To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Taremi has scored in two of his last three games and the forward has more goal contributions in the Champions League than any player outside the top five leagues. He’s scored five in six games in this competition and he can notch against an Inter side who look shaky at the back.

FC Porto vs Inter Milan Predictions

  • Inter conceded five goals across their trips to Bayern and Barca in the last round
  • Porto have won four straight meetings at home to Italian clubs
  • The Dragons have won nine of their last 10 home matches in all competitions
  • Taremi has scored five goals across six games in the Champions League this term

Can Porto sense a comeback?

Porto lost late on in the first leg away to Inter, conceding in the 86th minute after going down to 10 men with 12 minutes left to play. However, they should see the opportunity for a comeback when the pair meet in Porto this week.

The visitors lost 2-1 at Spezia at the weekend, which was their third game on the bounce without a win on the road. They’ve fallen off the pace in the Serie A title race as a result, while they could be about to drop out of Europe having scored just once across those three games.

Inter lost 2-0 at Bayern Munich and conceded three goals in a draw at Barcelona, so their away form in this competition should give Porto a chance. History also sits in the hosts’ favour, as they look to follow Benfica into the last eight.

Another Italian Job for Dragons

Porto have won each of their last four home matches in Europe against Italian clubs, beating Roma, Juventus, Milan and Lazio in succession. They can add another Italian giant to that list, given Inter’s struggles against Portuguese teams.

Inter have won just one of their eight matches away to Portuguese sides in major European competitions. They’ve also won only four of their last 15 away trips in this competition, with three of those coming at Viktoria Plzen, Slavia Prague and Sheriff.

While the Dragons have lost three of their five matches against Inter in the Champions League, all three of those defeats came away from home. At the Estadio do Dragao, they have earned one win and one draw against Inter.

Taremi to fire Porto to victory

Porto rallied to claim home advantage in the last 16, winning each of their final four group games after a poor start. That saw them see off Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid at this ground, so they should trouble Inter on Tuesday.

Porto have won nine of their last 10 home games, while they’ve scored three times in each of their two games heading into this clash. They also boast a high-scoring forward, given that Mehdi Taremi has been directly involved in seven goals in six appearances in the Champions League this season, scoring five times. He’s scored in two of his last three games and he can notch again on Tuesday.

Porto should take advantage of an Inter side who don’t have the best European record, while the hosts are in storming form at their own ground. Back them to claim a win on the night, but Porto have gone four games without a clean sheet and that could push this one to extra time.
