      Both Teams To Score

      Reason for tip

Grimsby have claimed one Premier League scalp this term following their penalty-shootout success over Manchester United in the EFL Cup, and the in-form Mariners could take a bite out of Wolves in this FA Cup clash. Wanderers are tailed off in the Premier League and this cup tie could be a welcome distraction from their relegation troubles. However, the Blundell Park crowd will be baying for blood and this could be a lively encounter with both sides getting on the scoresheet.

      Draw 2-2

      Reason for tip

Wolves played out a drab 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and they have scored just one goal in their last five league outings following their last match in the FA Cup. On that occasion they hammered Shrewsbury 6-1, but that came on home soil at Molineux and star of the show that day, Jorgen Strand Larsen who bagged a hat-trick has since departed. The Old Gold are likely to face more resistance in Cleethorpes, where a high-scoring draw could be played out.

      Grimsby Town vs Wolverhampton Predictions

      • Grimsby are unbeaten in ten matches – winning seven times
      • Wolves have won just two of their last 23 fixtures in all competitions
      • The Mariners drew 2-2 with Manchester United in the EFL Cup earlier this season

Wolves may struggle to sink Mariners

Grimsby are one of the form sides in League Two and they can carry their hot streak into the FA Cup on Saturday when we predict they can give beleaguered Premier League stargglers Wolves a hard time.

The Mariners are sailing along nicely in the fourth tier just a point outside the playoff places, but they are unbeaten in ten matches, winning seven times, and they will relish another crack at top-flight side.

Grimsby famously dumped Manchester United out of the EFL Cup earlier this season, and David Artell’s men raced into a 2-0 lead on that balmy August evening on the Lincolnshire coast.

United pegged them back to draw 2-2, but the League Two side held their nerve to win the penalty shootout and they will licking their lips at the prospects of another big scalp.

It’s hard to know what you will get from Wolves who are all-but consigned to relegation to the Championship, as they sit on just nine points in the Premier League, 18 points adrift of safety.

The cup may come as a welcome distraction, and it seemed that way in the third round when they hammered Shrewsbury 6-1.

That win, though, came on home soil at Molineux and the star of the show that day, Jorgen Strand Larsen who bagged a hat-trick has since departed. The Old Gold are likely to face more resistance in Cleethorpes, where a high-scoring draw could be played out, and a 2-2 scoreline is our correct-score prediction.
