Brentford 3-1 @ 14/1

Reason For Huddersfield vs Brentford Predictions

  • Brentford have won 3 on the spin, losing just once in 8 matches.
  • Huddersfield have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • All but 1 of Brentford’s away victories have come by 2+ goals.
  • Huddersfield’s last 4 home defeats have been by 2+ goals.

Revenge for Brentford

These two sides last met back in November, when the picture was very different for both. Brentford’s playoff bid took a hit in a rare Griffin Park defeat, going down to a Huddersfield side who were finding their feet in the second tier. However, that success for the visitors turned out to be short-lived.

Huddersfield come into this clash in 20th place in the Championship, with just four points between them and the drop zone. The Terriers are in need of some vital points in the coming weeks, but Saturday pits them against a Brentford side who are storming towards the top two intent on winning automatic promotion.

Bees Flying

The visitors are in great shape coming into this one, having lost just once in their last eight in all competitions. They’ve scored three victories on the spin ahead of this clash, while the Bees have managed to close the gap to Leeds to just six points. With a meeting between those two coming at Griffin Park soon, Thomas Frank and his men are making a great push for promotion.

Meanwhile, the Terriers are plummeting to new depths, with a run so bad that almost no one in the EFL can match their struggles of late. Since the start of last season, only Southend United (49) have lost more games in all competitions than Huddersfield Town (45) among teams in England’s top four tiers. The hosts have added to that of late, with defeats in four of their last five.

Brentford’s Great Spread

Brentford are looking to win four consecutive matches in all competitions for the first time since October 2015, which would be a real mark of progression for this team. They’ve certainly improved on last year, having already doubled their tally of away wins from the whole of last season. The Bees have managed to do that in style, winning by at least two goals in five of their six away successes.

Overall, Brentford have won by two goals or more in nine of their 14 league victories, recording two 3-1 victories and a 4-0 success in their last four matches. Now they meet a Huddersfield side who have lost by two goals or more in their last four home defeats. Brentford are heavy favourites for the points following the form of both sides, but their record this season suggests that an away victory will come by two clear goals. As a result, we think there’s great value to be found in backing the Bees with a -1 handicap.

Huddersfield have seen both teams score in 67% of their games this season, while the visitors have lost by exactly two goals in half of their home defeats. Meanwhile, with the Bees scoring at least three times in five of their six away league wins, we see a high scoring success for the visitors this weekend. A 3-1 away win is our correct score pick.
