Italy vs Switzerland Predictions
- Switzerland have kept five consecutive clean sheets in qualifying.
- Italy have conceded one goal through six qualifiers.
- The reverse fixture ended 0-0 in September.
All to play for
Italy’s 37-game unbeaten run came to an end in their Nations League semi-final defeat to Spain but they still remain unbeaten in qualifying. The Azzurri have won four and drawn two of their six matches keeping five clean sheets with their last qualifier seeing them cruise to a 5-0 victory over Lithuania back in September.
However, their work isn’t done yet with Switzerland hot on the European champions’ tails. Both sides have conceded just one goal in qualifying with new Switzerland boss Murat Yakin leading his side to a 0-0 draw in his debut game against Italy. They are yet to concede under the new coach keeping four straight clean sheets and comfortably despatching both Lithuania and Northern Ireland last month. With two tight defences, there won’t be much to split these sides and with 10 clean sheets in qualifying for both teams combined I think it’s fair to say our under 2.5 goals prediction has a geat chance of landing.
Tense affair
A draw is enough to keep Italy top, so the longer they are kept out the more defensive they will become. A draw does nothing for Switzerland and with their place in the play-offs at least sealed they may opt to go for all three and Italy should pick off a goal on the counter-attack to emerge 1-0 winners.
