Latvia can bounce back with victory

Latvia were handsomely beaten in Armenia in their opening Nations League encounter but they can get their first points on the board when they host a Faroe Islands side than have been wretched away from home in recent years.

Paolo Nicolato’s men were beaten 4-1 on Saturday but their recent home form could provide them with a bit more promise, with two wins and a draw registered from their last five in front of their own fans.

Faroe Islands opened their Group C4 campaign with a respectable 1-1 draw at home to North Macedonia which put an end to their three match losing streak across all competitions. However, they have won just twice away from home since the start of 2020 and so a victory looks a tall order in this one.

Latvia have already beaten the Faroe Islands on their own turf in 2024 – a 1-0 victory in the semi-finals of the Baltic Cup – and they could replicate this feat. The 11 vilki have scored exactly once in four of their last five matches and so a 1-0 victory draws some appeal.
