Draw and Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Luton have drawn both of their Championship matches this season, both of which featured fewer than three goals, while Preston have drawn both of their Championship games 0-0 this season. PNE produced a division-high 16 stalemates last season and no Championship club even really came close to matching their seven goalless draws.

Draw 0-0

Reason for tip

No team had more 0-0 draws than Preston (seven) in the Championship last term and they have opened up with back-to-back goalless draws this season too. Luton, meanwhile, have drawn both of their Championship games this term and scored just the once.

Luton vs Preston Predictions

  • Luton have drawn both of their Championship matches this season, both of which featured fewer than three goals.
  • Preston have drawn both of their Championship games 0-0 this season.
  • No team had more 0-0 draws than Preston (seven) in the Championship last season.

Preston can keep Luton on a tight leash

Kenilworth Road may not be the place to go for fans hoping to see goals this weekend when Luton Town play host to Preston. Luton, who lost to Newport County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, have drawn both of their Championship games this term and scored just the once.

Preston peppered Hull City’s goal with over 20 shots last week, but failed to score for a second Saturday in succession. So a third league draw in a row for both clubs with not many goals is the obvious betting conclusion to make from this pattern.

North End produced a division-high 16 stalemates last season and no Championship club even really came close to matching their seven goalless draws.

Lowe’s team are also low on league goals this term

Ryan Lowe’s team will hope that their midweek cup rout of Huddersfield can spark them into something better, but the Terriers have been so defensively poor that they are probably not going to be an accurate yardstick for what they will face from Luton.

The Hatters are one of the most direct teams in the division on the early evidence – in total contrast to Huddersfield – but Preston fared well enough against direct sides last season to suggest they can get something this weekend.

Although backing a 0-0 draw is always fraught with danger, back-to-back blanks from Preston this term make it an obvious choice here and Luton laboured in their opening-weekend contest with Birmingham too.
