Luton Under 1.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Luton have scored a second goal in only one of their last 14 Championship matches. Sheffield United, meanwhile, have conceded more than once in only five of their last 30 Championship games. The Hatters have also failed to score multiple goals in the last six head-to-head meetings between the clubs.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

During a 13-game stretch that spanned the 2021-22 run-in and the early going this season, Luton scored a grand total of seven goals. Four of their results in that sequence were 1-1 draws, including two of their last five home league games. Sheffield United average just under 1.0 goals per game on the road, having scored nine goals in their last ten away Championship matches, four of which were drawn.

Hatters have a lot on their plate

Luton Town will have a lot on their plate when they face in-form table-toppers Sheffield United at Kenilworth Road on Friday night. The Blades saw off Blackburn Rovers with a complete performance last weekend, winning 3-0 at a canter and creating enough chances to have threatened double figures against Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side, who appear to be holding on to Norwegian ace Sander Berge for now, finally have a variety of options up front after the long-delayed return of Oli McBurnie. And the addition of Bosnian defender Anel Ahmedhodzic has potentially made a defence that was elite by Championship standards last season even better.

McBurnie missed a couple of chances against Blackburn that suggest he’s still a touch rusty, but one goal might be enough for the Blades at Kenilworth Road – where Luton have failed to score in both their league games this season.

Goals have become rare commodities for Luton

The Hatters are coming off a 2-0 win over a defensively inept Swansea side that let a two-goal lead slip against Millwall a few days before. That was the first time that Nathan Jones’ side had scored multiple goals in a league game – home or away – since early April.

During a 13-game stretch that spanned the 2021-22 run-in and the early going this season, Luton scored a grand total of seven goals. Whether last Saturday’s win in South wales sparks them or not, it will be no easy job to score multiple times against a visiting defence that has conceded more than once in just five of their last 30 league outings.

The Blades are favoured in the match result market, but they have won only one of their last ten away league games, so there is stronger evidence for a 1-1 correct score play here. Two of Luton’s last five home league games have finished that way too.
