Nantes 2-1

Reason for tip

Nantes beat Nice home and away last season in two closely-fought contests and may just have the visitors’ number again. They are scoring goals and can take advantage of captain Dante’s absence to take a 2-1 victory.

Nantes can ruffle les Aiglons’ feathers

Nantes look good value for the win when they entertain Nice in Ligue 1 at Stade de la Beaujoire on Sunday. Antoine Kombouare’s side are coming off a disappointing 2-0 away defeat to Lyon, but their home performances have been encouraging.

On-loan Lyon midfielder Johann Lepenant could not face his parent club, but his return for this clash should adequately compensate for the loss of fellow midfielders Douglas Augusto and Marcus Coco to suspensions.

Lepenant scored and assisted in Nantes’ 2-2 home draw with Saint Etienne last month and should give les Canaris’ a greater chance of ruffling Nice’s feathers.

Dante’s absence could derail Nice’s defence

Les Aiglons will be without suspended centre-back Dante, who captains the side and is one of the few genuine leaders they have on the pitch. His absence could be hard for them to overcome and their defence may bear the brunt of any initiative that is handed Nantes’ way.

Kombouare oversaw home and away wins over Nice last season and can engineer another one here if they hold up defensively against a talented Nice forward line.

Backing Nantes to score at least twice, which they have done in two of their three previous home games, looks a solid play as Nice have shipped multiple goals in three of their five away assignments this term.
