Oldham vs Cambridge United Predictions
Oldham Athletic progressed in the FA Cup following a narrow 2-1 win at Hampton & Richmond on Monday night, while their opponents in League Two on Saturday were knocked-out by non-league Guiseley. Oldham and Cambridge both linger in the bottom half of the League Two table, but the visitors have form in their favour having won their last three league games and will be hoping to go level on twenty-one points with their hosts by beating them on Saturday.
Oldham Athletic earned a goalless draw away at relegation threatened Notts County last week, but really should have won the game after dominating the ninety minutes at Meadow Lane. The visitors had 53% of the overall possession, nine corners to the hosts three, and nine shots on target to Notts County’s one.
That result leaves Oldham Athletic in mid table on twenty-one points and a win this weekend could see the hosts move into the top half and as high as eleventh place. With six goals in League Two this season, Surridge top scores for Oldham Athletic and will provide their main attacking threat against Cambridge United this weekend. Former West Bromwich Albion forward Ishmael Miller is now 31-years old and has become somewhat of a journeyman having played for seven clubs in the last six years, and this season Miller has chipped in with three goals in twelve appearances in League Two for Oldham Athletic.
Three wins and three clean sheets have seen Cambridge United seven points clear of the relegation zone, and another win this weekend would take them level on points with Oldham, but the goal difference between the clubs means the hosts are still likely to remain above their guests, even if they lose.
Cambridge United had to remain patient on their way to three points at home to Grimsby Town in their last league game on the 3rd November. Despite having 57% of the overall possession Cambridge United were held to a goalless draw all the way until the eighty-third minute, when substitute Lewis netted after being on the pitch for under ten minutes.
Jamaica’s Brown leads the way in front of goal for Cambridge United this season with four goals, while teammate Lambe sits just one behind with three goals to his name. Much improved defensive displays from this weekends visitors have lead to three clean sheets in their last three matches, which suggests Oldham Athletic are going to find it tough to break down the visitors on Saturday.
We’re confident that both teams will score and that over 2.5 goals will be produced in Saturday’s game, and have backed the game to end in a 2-2 draw. Both teams have scored in four of the last six meetings between the two clubs, while over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of the last six meetings between the pair. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in four of the host’s last six matches, and the visitors have scored in all of their last five matches.
