Canaries can stop Oxford’s party

Oxford United are playing in the second tier of English football for the first time since the 1998/99 season however the party atmosphere at the Kassam Stadium may be dampened when Norwich come to town on Saturday.

The U’s stunned League One favourites Bolton in the play-off final back in May and many of the core group remain in OX4, although hero of the final Josh Murphy did leave for Portsmouth this summer.

Norwich’s experience of the play-offs were less happy as the Canaries slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Leeds to crash out of the promotion picture.

Johannes Thorup’s men are one of the favourites for the play-offs this season and will be a force to be reckoned with on Saturday, particularly given that only Leicester and Middlesbrough scored more league goals on their travels last season than the Canaries.

However, the feel-good factor around Oxford United should bring with it something to cheer about for the U’s and so they may get on the scoresheet. Our prediction is a 2-1 win for the visitors.
