      Plymouth Argyle vs Carlisle Predictions

There may be a pretty huge gap between Plymouth Argyle and Carlisle United in terms of the map, but both sides went into this season with pretty similar expectations as both would have wanted to be challenging for promotion to League One. This weekend the two sides go head to head and with neither side at their best at the moment, it should be a pretty open contest.

Plymouth came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at Swindon last weekend thanks to a late Joel Grant goal, and it was a result which continued their poor recent form. Ryan Lowe’s side had made a great start to the season but with only one win in their last six matches in all competitions they have dropped down the table. However, with just

Carlisle United’s form can best be described as inconsistent, however, they at least showed some fight in their 4-2 defeat at home to new league leaders Crewe last weekend. Despite going 2-0 down in the first half, they hit back to levelled in the second half but Crewe showed their class to add two further goals and take the points. Conceding four times in a single match is not exactly a surprise for the Cumbrians, as they have conceded 23 times in the league this season and have the second worst defensive record in the division.

Given the inconsistent nature of both of these sides, it is hard to be confident in any of the win-draw-win options. However, one thing which has remained consistent is the amount of goals both of these sides have seen in their outings this season. The hosts have only managed one clean sheet in one of their last eight matches while their visitors have managed two clean sheets in their last seven. With this in mind, we think that backing both teams to score represents the best opportunity for a decent return.

In terms of a correct score tip, the long trip may well have an effect on the match and should be enough to give the hosts the edge. Our money is going on Plymouth getting the points in a 2-1 victory.
