San Lorenzo vs San Martin De San Juan Predictions

Tuesday’s Superliga Argentina action sees an under-pressure San Lorenzo side doing battle with the relegation threatened San Martin de San Juan. An open game is expected overall, as the two fight for the 3 points on offer.

It feels as though San Lorenzo boss Claudio Biaggio has been on the brink of losing his job for months now, but a poor result in Tuesday’s game would surely seal his fate. El Ciclon ended last season very poorly, despite their 3rd place finish and having started the new campaign in the same manner, claiming just 7 points from as many games, unrest is running high in the stands.

With a squad far weaker than that of years gone by, it looks set to be a long season for the hosts but even so, there’s enough quality there for the team to be higher than the 19th place they currently find themselves in. Dismal in a 2-0 defeat at Banfield last time out, San Lorenzo desperately need a win in this match and an unbeaten streak of 5 Superliga home games, 3 of which coming from wins will at least have confidence somewhat high in getting one.

Meanwhile, just 1 point outside of the drop zone on the average points tables used to relegate sides to the B Nacional, San Martin find themselves in a relegation scrap that looks set to go right down to the wire.

8 points from 7 relatively mild fixtures in terms of quality of opponent faced, suggests El Verdinegro are in big trouble but the visitors did at least manage to end a run of 3 straight defeats last time out with a 3-1 home triumph over Velez, in what was boss Ruben Forestello’s first match in charge after he replaced Walter Coyette.

A big problem facing both of these outfits is their ability to keep the ball out and said fact suggests that we won’t be short of goals on Tuesday, especially considering both parties really need to go for the 3 points. As such, backing goals at both ends looks an excellent way to play and is exactly where our money is going.

San Lorenzo’s last 4 home matches have seen both sides scoring, with an average of 3.75 goals on display, whilst San Martin’s last 5 fixtures have also had goals at either end, with an even bigger average of 4 goals a game racked up across said outings. Add in the fact that the last 3 meetings between the two have featured both teams scoring, as well as 5 of the last 6, and it really does look the only way to play.

As for the result itself, we think San Lorenzo will run out 3-1 winners. For all their struggles, they’re still a fairly powerful force on their own patch and are a better team man for man than their opponents here.
