SPAL vs Juventus Predictions
- The league leaders have beaten the bottom club in their last five clashes.
- Juventus have seen both teams score in 75% of their away trips.
- SPAL have scored and lost in their last four matches, shipping 12 goals.
- A third of Juve’s away games have seen them win 2-1.
Can Juve Hit their Stride?
Last weekend was a good one for the champions, who saw nearest rivals Inter Milan drop points. While the growing presence of Lazio is a problem, Maurizio Sarri’s side are out in front yet again. The question is: Can they stay there?
Juve’s busy campaign will start catching up with them soon, as they return to Champions League action this week. With looming knockout ties against Lyon and AC Milan to come, Juve just need points on the board. However, could that allow SPAL to add to their scoring streak?
Basement Battle
SPAL have won 15 points in this Serie A season; only one of the previous 18 teams with this number of points after 24 Serie A games (in the three points era) avoided relegation (Crotone in 2016/17). After 24 matches, they’ve lost 17 times. While the hosts are hoping to fight their way out of this one, they are unlikely to move any closer to safety when they meet Juve.
Each of the last five games between first and last team in the standings at the beginning of a Serie A MD ended with the leaders enjoying a victory – the last defeat for the team in first place was Juventus against Verona in May 2016, with the Bianconeri having already been crowned champions. They are still pushing for the title here, looking to add to their 18 wins from 24 league games.
High-scoring Success
In total, 75% of Juve’s away trips so far have seen both teams score. Meanwhile, SPAL have seen both teams score in each of their last five games. However, those games haven’t all gone the home side’s way. SPAL have scored and lost in four successive games, conceding 12 goals in that period.
We see them losing this meeting with a Juventus side who have seen plenty of goals on their travels this term. An away win and over 2.5 goals is our tip, having landed in five of the visitors’ seven away wins so far. Juventus pulled off another two-goal haul against Brescia last time out. That’s the 11th time this season Juve have scored exactly two goals in a Serie A game.
Meanwhile, SPAL’s recent record going forward could see them scoring, especially with Juve shipping a goal in three quarters of their away trips so far. As a result, we’re backing a 2-1 Juve win, which has landed in a third of their away games in the league.
