Expectations at the start of the season can be a funny thing, some will massively exceed what they thought they would be capable where as others will fall at the opposite end of the spectrum. This weekend sees a side who fall in the latter category as an out of form Stevenage look for their first win of the season against a Macclesfield Town side who will be delighted with the progress they have made so far.

Despite hopes of being in and around the race for promotion, things have not exactly gone to plan for Stevenage so far this season. Although they were able to score in the Carabao Cup, they conceded twice against League One strugglers Southend United and exited the competition in the first round.

With the struggles of Bury and Bolton in the news at the moment, it is worth noting that Macclesfield have plenty of financial troubles of their own and this played no small part in the departure of Sol Campbell as manager. However, their performance in the league has not been reflective of their off field troubles and they have won three of their five league matches so far.

The form of the hosts leads us to believe that the visitors should be able to emerge victorious, a feeling which is only boosted when we consider Macclesfield’s form this season.
