Defending champions Stuttgart take on in-form Freiburg in the semi-finals of the DfB Pokal on Thursday.

The hosts are the favourites to progress and are the more likely winners, but Freiburg arrive in red-hot form after four straight wins.

As such, backing VfB at a short-price holds little appeal and the better option looks to be taking a chance on both of these teams to score.

Freiburg are on a seven-game scoring run across all competitions and they’ve scored more than once in six of those games. Clean sheets have been an issue for the Breisgau-Brasilianer, however, with just two in their last 13 games.

VfB won 1-0 when these sides met at this venue in February and they can see off Freiburg again in this cup tie, with a 2-1 home win the pick. Stuttgart have been excellent at home this season, particularly domestically, and they’ve won 11 of their 15 home league games. Their only home losses have come against Bayern, Dortmund, Porto and Celtic so they should be able to overcome a Freiburg side who have six defeats in their last 11 away from home.

Deniz Undav has seven goals in his last nine games for club and country and should come into this game fresh after missing Stuttgart’s defeat to Bayern last time out through suspension. The Germany striker looks a strong pick for an anytime effort.
