Switzerland vs Cameroon Predictions

• Switzerland have won their last three competitive games, beating Spain, Portugal and Czech Republic.
• Cameroon have lost their last seven World Cup fixtures.
• Breel Embolo has scored seven international goals since the start of 2021, including two in his last three appearances.

Favourites in good form

Switzerland may have lost their warm-up friendly against Ghana last week but they have a well of World Cup experience to draw from and they should be able to get off to a good start in Qatar.

They have made it past the Group Stage in four of their last five World Cup appearances and, prior to that defeat against Ghana, had won three successive matches and beaten the likes of Portugal and Spain in the process.

Song’s Cameroon set to struggle

Cameroon’s World Cup history is less well-storied, with the Indomitable Lions making it to the knockout phase just once in seven appearances, which came all the way back in 1990 in the Roger Mila era.

Rigobert Song’s side haven’t enjoyed the best preparations, either, failing to win any of their last four games and possessing a squad lacking any real household stars, barring the attacking quartet of Karl Toko Ekambi, Eric Choupo-Moting, Bryan Mbeumo and Vincent Aboubabakar.

Swiss to start with a win

Cameroon missed out on the 2018 World Cup but their previous two appearances, in 2014 and 2010, saw them lose all three group games on each occasion and they face a decent Switzerland side in good form.

I’m backing the favourites to win here, and considering Cameroon have failed to score in their three defeats since August a 2-0 correct score prediction also appeals.

Those in the market for a goalscorer should consider Breel Embolo. The Monaco forward has scored seven of his 11 international goals since the start of 2021 and has found the net in two of their last three games.
