Tottenham Hotspur vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
- Tottenham have won their last three home league games, two of which came by two-goal margins.
- Forest have the worst away record in the league.
- Spurs have managed four consecutive home clean sheets across all competitions.
Spurs looking to strengthen top four claims
Tottenham were dumped out of the Champions League by AC Milan in midweek but can boost their chances of returning to Europe’s top competition by seeing off Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Spurs have endured a tough run since March began as they kicked off the month by being knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United, then slipped to a 1-0 loss at Wolves before a 0-0 stalemate with Milan in North London saw their European hopes extinguished with a 1-0 aggregate loss.
Antonio Conte’s men look a team low on confidence but a home game against the league’s worst travellers looks like an ideal opportunity to stop the rot and get their top four bid firmly back on track.
Handicap markets an option
Tottenham are a short price to win this game so it may be worth being a little bolder here by backing them to cover a -1 handicap.
The Londoners have failed to score in their last three games and that is a worry, but they did create plenty of chances in their last league game against Wolves (22 attempts, six on target) and they should enjoy more success against Forest’s leaky defence.
The visitors are in the midst of a crisis as the back with defenders Willy Boly and Scott McKenna recently joining a lengthy injury list, while keeper Keylor Navas has conceded nine goals in five games since replacing the injured first choice Dean Henderson.
Tottenham currently hold fourth spot but the advantage is arguably with Liverpool in fifth as they are three points behind with a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
Spurs can cut into that goal advantage on Saturday by beating a Forest side who have shipped eight goals across their last three away from home with room to spare.
Clean sheet on the cards for hosts
Forest have scored just three away goals in the league and those efforts have all come against the teams currently in the bottom three. They have also shipped 29 themselves in 12 games, and given their defensive selection issues a comfortable 3-0 win for Tottenham looks a reasonable correct score selection.
If Spurs are to stay ahead of Liverpool they need Harry Kane to rediscover his scoring touch and he looks their most likely contender for a goal at anytime. Kane is bidding to end a three-game scoring drought but he still has 18 goals in 26 league games so his name and will be on penalty duties on Saturday.
